  1. Louis the Great of Poland and Hungary and Elizabeth of Bosnia had a male heir

I don't see the Croatia analog, Poland is too big IMO to be dominated long term by Hungary. Maybe see a Hungary-Poland Empire (as an analogy with the Austro-Hungary of OTL) if there was a ruler strong enough to keep the variuos factions subjugated.
  2. Louis the Great of Poland and Hungary and Elizabeth of Bosnia had a male heir

With Louis II's wife giving birth to a son instead of a daughter there would have been no need for Louis to agree to the Privilege of Kraschau (or Kosyzce) . Without giving up so much power to the szlachta, Poland could have had a more powerful monarchy and a more centralized state. This may...
  3. The Bohemian Revolution - A Sidestepped Thirty Year's War

To give Frederick V some leverage maybe when Emperor Ferdinand is returning from his coronation in Frankfurt to Vienna he is unable to evade Transylvanian marauders. His capture and being handed over to Frederick could result in a negotiated settlement.
  4. AHC: with a PoD after Peace of Augsburg, prevent 30 years war

I'm currently re-reading Peter Wilson's The Thirty Years War as I wanted to find a POD that could give a different outcome; with the intention of writing up a timeline. There are lots of possible PODs! So far every POD seems to result in scenarios that gradually drift towards a war in the early...
  5. A Blunted Sickle - Thread II

They do have a criminal practice which takes up most of their time* * With apologies to Julian and Sandy! Had a good chuckle at that. Really impressed that you are continuing to make this TL an absorbing read. Keep up the good work.
  6. AHC: Germany Sans Prussia?

Maybe when Duke Albert Frederick dies in 1618 Sigismund Vasa awards the Dukedom of Ducal Prussia to someone other than John Sigismund of Brandenburg so that Brandenburg-Prussia doesn't come into being. Maybe John Sigismund's second son Joachim. Alternatively one of Albert Frederick's sons...
  7. Realistic Consequences of Russia keeping Alaska

On discovery of gold there would have a been a Klondike type gold rush. Access would have been easier for people from the US and Canada than from Russia so would have ended up with a Yankee/Canadian/Pommie population. If Russia had then tried to exert control and had conflict with the miners...
  8. A very different South Africa - maybe?

It's possible that Soviet intervention would have been less aggressive and maybe not have poured in weapons to promote a communist take over. Gorbachev would maybe have seen risk for the Soviet Union in confronting the west in an area perceived to be strategically inportant. However, the...
  9. A very different South Africa - maybe?

One of the reasons SA was able to make a relatively peaceful transition from the Nats to the ANC was that it came after the fall of communism. If the proposed allowing of political activity by ANC adherents, Mandela and his ilk, had happened in 1984 it would have failed because the Soviet Union...
  10. WI: Coal in Botswana discovered in 1899

Probably nothing. The market is very limited, the diamond and coal mines are supplied from SA sources for which the required infrastructure (rail lines) is already in place. No local market and the need for expensive infrastructure to get to the markets would kill any possibility of exploiting...
  11. A Bathory Rules Again

It seemed to follow for me that if Sweden is not having to worry about the PLC conflict as in OTL then Swedish resources would be directed elsewhere and expansion into Russia had started OTL so ITTL it gets a little bit more resources and with greater internal Russian turmoil, more success...
  12. A Bathory Rules Again

Thanks for the support. I was worried Seraphim 74 and I were getting into a boring (for others ) PLC debate.
  13. A Bathory Rules Again

12 Russia's Troubles Continue When the appointment of a Chancellor and Hetman for Ruthenia became known, Tsar Vasily of Russia sent strenuous objections to King Andreas I. In his missive Vasily claimed all of Ruthenia east of the Dniester River as Russian domains. Andreas rejected these claims...
  14. A Bathory Rules Again

I meant that ITTL I think Lisowcyczy was killed in the First Battle of Soroca.
  15. A Bathory Rules Again

For the career of GA I was thinking along similar lines, I haven't resolved if the Bohemian throne is offered to someone else first which would deny GA the throne. But I like the idea of GA the King of Bohemia. I don't think the sejm or Andreas would at this point be interested in foreign...
