In regards to a longer Reconstruction, how would we achieve that? No Lincoln assassination? Perhaps the impeachment of Andrew Johnson goes forward (although the Radical Republicans still basically ran Reconstruction policy after that, if memory serves).

I think one potential event, or series of events, that could lead to this scenario are the NAACP's court cases against segregated law schools in the 1930s and 1940s being defeated.
Another WI: perhaps Harry Truman loses in 1948? If memory...
Perhaps the POD here could simply be that he runs for president in 2004. Remember, he ran for re-election against Thune in 2004, not 2002. He lost by only 4500 votes or so...considering that it was a bad year for Democrats overall, he didn't do that badly. He could've had a chance in the general...
I think the KKK could've remained strong in the North if some sort of fascist were elected in the 1930s instead of Roosevelt. Or, perhaps WWII goes on longer, and the horrible race riots of the time get even worse.
If this were to happen....very scary for Northern politics. MLK got a bad...

I guess this is obviously a TL where Texas is independant; perhaps they get involved in the Second World War, joining some sort of 'American Alliance' with the USA?
I guess any TL where the Library at Alexandria isn't destroyed...I just like seeing the speculation at some of the theories and ideas that were destroyed in that fire that took us years to get back to...
