  1. Photos from Alternate Worlds II (read FAQ first)

I should continue past the election. I was planning on Reagan winning. The New England States were ISOT'd from 2006 to 1979. Romney was the governor of Massachusetts and was the VP candidate for Reagan.
  2. If Japan avoids Pearl Harbor...

It wouldn't have made any sense to Japan at the time, but if they had foresight, in 1941, their best outcome would be to come to terms with the US. It might have required withdrawing from Indochina and mainland China outside of Manchuria. It would have left Japan short of minerals. Maybe they...
  3. DBWI: Explain This Map

In that map, Salish Island (OOC Vancouver Island) is missing. Maybe this is an alternate timeline with a change of geography causing huge changes?
  4. DBWI: Explain This Map

How would you explain the difference between east and west? A cease fire line in the east, but an arbitrary negotiated settlement in the west?
  5. DBWI: Explain This Map

It is also obvious from the map that there was a peaceful division between the two largest nations. 2 large straight lines, indicate that peaceful division. However, note that in the eastern sectors more complicated borders, including ones that do not follow natural boundaries, and then west...
  6. "Foresight War" for other countries

1954 I have written, and am still writing, my version of the concept with time travelers from 2008 sent to 1954. https://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=91769
  7. WI: Early War of 1812?

I think the US would have done better, with more soldiers with Revolutionary War experience.
  8. Plausible Carthage Wank?

They could have started a trade federation with requirements for the provisions of ships and troops by its members, and a rapid reaction force to defend any of its members from outside attack, or any rebellion by its members. That federation could grow indefinitely, include most of the Roman...
  9. Japan Wins Battle of Midway, Now What?

This was Japanese doctrine, with the addition that their fleet should strike the American fleet while the American fleet was escorting an invasion fleet somewhere deep in Japanese held territory.
  10. Japan in the Allies

I had written up a history that leaves Japan leaning towards a US alliance in a Shared Worlds game https://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showthread.php?p=1591545&highlight=japan#post1591545 The point of departure is that Kanji Ishiwara dies in transit from Germany to Japan in 1925...
  11. Preparing for a "Yes:" Quebec, 1995

The US wouldn't want to drive Quebec into measures such as French troops. Likewise, the US can have its own trade treaty with Quebec, even if it is not as part of NAFTA.
  12. Preparing for a "Yes:" Quebec, 1995

I don't think the US would want to do something like that. It would push Quebec in the same direction that Cuba was pushed in 1959. The US would probably sign its own trade agreement with Quebec if Canada doesn't let it become part of the 1995 version of NAFTA. France would have supplied...
  13. Preparing for a "Yes:" Quebec, 1995

They would have declared independence anyway, and the legalities or Canadian approval wouldn't have made much difference. Ottawa wouldn't have gone to war, so the independence would stand.
  14. Mariner 4 discovers Martian ruins

There would be race to mars, by the US and USSR, to get at Martian technology.
  15. New York City Founded on OTHER Bank of Hudson River

Someone is going to found a city there. Similar situation in Massachusetts. The first colony was in Plymouth, but Boston was too good of a harbor-city site to pass up for long.
