WI Challenge from Dan1988

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is that within the British Mandate of Palestine, you should make a binational Palestine a reality before the end of WW2.

This binational country must be secular and free from Zionist influences, and encompass the territory of the original Mandate of Palestine (which means what is now Israel, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and Jordan). This also means that the Golan Heights are part of it (that was part of the original Mandate of Palestine until the Twenties when it was handed over to the French). It also must have a functioning government capable of standing on its own if Britain decides to end the Mandate.

Begin!

Well does there have to be a WW2 in the first place, surely without WW2, there would be a more politically and ethnically stable Palestine. Of course, there has to be a whole number of other changes to avoid WW2. I'm not sure the region could be totally free of Zionist Influences, as there will be continued immigration of Jewish settlers and there will conflict with local Arab Muslims, there are also a few issues with the local Christians as well such as the Maronites.

I'm sure maybe if there is a widespread support campaign for the region to gain Dominion status, the region could be given a dgree of semi-independency.Maybe after a few decades of showing the British, compentency and capability of self-rule and actually improving the social, economic and political institutions, Palestine could be given independence.

Sorry, I'm ver lazy when it comes to making an actual TL.:p

What did you mean by binational?

The Balfour Resolution/letter was a big problem. Avoiding that might be nice.

Something along the lines of 'Rule Britannia'--Britain forces the Ottoman surrender with a successful run through the Dardanelles. After the collapse of Ottoman authority, Britain eventually (over a long period) of time forges the Dominion of Palestine out of what would have become OTL's Palestinian Mandate and Transjordan, which has two Viceroys (one Jew and one Muslim). Despite occassional friction, the Jews and Muslims live peacefully together.

Not really possible. You have to convince the British not to make all manner of promises, not to give the French a bit of territory that they want, and to somehow anticipate in advance that their favorite family will get tossed out of what becomes Saudi Arabia, thus deserving an expanded reward.

Beyond inventing Jordan and giving them Iraq also.

Next you need to kill the Mufti of Jerusalem and his top people.

Prevent Hitler from rising to power, thus no flow of Jews from Europe.

Determine to take in all of the Jews in the Middle East in the UK or perhaps Canada or Australia, giving a better offer than they might get in the region.

Your one shred of hope is Abdullah of Transjordan, who might have had enough respect to convince the Jews that a monarchy which respected their rights was better than nothing at all. The Palestinians still get screwed.

Long list of things to do here...

Being completely "free from Zionist influences" would mean that more of the country would be nearly worthless desert than is the case IOTL. Good luck getting (more) Jews to settle the area without ANY Zionist influences.
