It just occurred to me that autonomous fighting drones have now become capable enough that they can probably make a vaguely realistic Doctor Who episode about them going rogue.

This is the outline of something I'm working on, a battleship for a revamp of my Sky Father world.

Before you ask, 960mm.

Fortunately, in the world this ship exists, I have the nice handwavium of unseen magical forces to explain why it doesn't.

I'm not sure what you mean by that, but it's not exactly a battleship. Its gun only works at long range and isn't really accurate enough to hit other ships, so it doesn't fulfil the same role as a battleship. It's more for shooting the crap out of coastal cities, zeppelins, and the occasional Deathstar-esque superweapon.

It might be relevant to note that all its other guns are AA-guns.

I think by that he means the ship is built around the gun, not the gun added to a ship. The A10's gun for instance is huge, fixed in position, and makes it seem like the 'plane only exists to get the gun from A to B (though this isn't the case). I think it's quite a good analogy for what you've described For instance, A10s generally don't try to down other 'planes.

Oh, I see. Well, that's almost exactly what it is. It's basically a supersized Schwerer Gustav on a battleship, with all the other guns replaced with AA weapons. Generally this type of ship, which I have dubbed the 'Cannonship', travel with some escorts, generally a few of cruisers and destroyers, or in large fleets alongside battleships.

I'm planning to draw quite a few ships from the Sky Father world. A few will be relatively boring, most will be over-the-top like the Cannonship.

You may see the image update a bit in the next couple of hours as I'm at school and I'm working on the image, but I can't e-mail it home, so I'm uploading it to that post every time I modify it.

.
Actually , this makes a lot of sense. IRL the Schwerer Gustav required a vast retinue of soldiers , trains and aircraft to even move the damm thing. If you could mount the canon on a Battleship (difficult , but not impossible if its a Picket boat , or Cannonade) , then it would be far easier to move and position , and more importantly , as part of a fleet , it would have that anti-air and anti-ship protection anyway. This is to say someone elses fleet , after all , after 1940 the Germans didnt have a Blue water navy as such.

I suppose the main problem would be the recoil , This thing would need anchors the size large houses , and the sheer movement would undoubtably cause a small tidal wave. As well as that , accuracy (which was never going to be great with this thing anyway) would be hampered a greatly by the movement.

Ironacly , the only time the Gustav was used in battle was at the seige of Sebastapol , a port city.

As I said, I have some magical handwavium to get around problems such as realistic physics. I guess the Germans [it's a German ship] meddled with it, magically reducing the recoil and weight of it, whilst enchanting the ammunition to be more accurate.

Hey there, folks. I haven't been here for a long time... U'll find some of my posts earlier in this thread
Some months ago, I developed this fictional aircraft (see below). Now, before you start complaining about the "wings being made in a non-funcitonal way, etc" let me just say that; I will fix those wings! I will remake them so that they look like they could work lol.

Well... hope u like it

Some specs:
Engines: 2x (not sure what kind of engines though...)
Top Speed: Mach 2.329 ( 761.90931 m/s, according to google.)
There are at least two versions of this craft. One "Two-seater" and one "single-seat".

Do you have any writings about the Sky Father world. Sounds interesting I'd like to take a look. Can you send me a link?

All I've got at the moment are maps with descriptions, which are all out of date. You can still take a look at them if you want, they can be found here:

The only piece of writing that I've done about the Sky Father world that I haven't retconned yet is this thingy I posted once:

Thanks It's not a Saab though... it's my own design (can't deny I was inspired by the Saab Jas39 though)

The plane looks a bit fat and due to the cut out surface not being the same at all points across the body, the plane will not be performing that well to say the least.

But besides its fat belly it looks pretty nice.
Also if the curvature of the nose would flow more steadily into the curvature of the cockpit it would look better as well.

Ok, this looks interesting. Can you maybe set up a thread and share more of your ideas with us?

Not my best work, quite unfinished, but I quite like it:

Airship for Italy-like thing in steampunk RP, never got off the ground sadly.
