Falklands Great Power

The challenge is; Given a POD after 1900, turn the Falkland Islands into an independent nation and one of the world's great powers. Not superpower necessarily, but equivalent to say Britain or France in the present day.

No ASB intervention or Great Man scenarios.

Impossible. The Falklands could become, maybe, a minor oil producer if independent. Influential, but not a Britain or France.

Well one possibility is the cold war goes nuclear post 1982, Europe is rapidly wiped off the map, the USA and USSR then start nuking everything with a population of more than a few thousand... but an oversight leaves the Falklands un-nuked... and with the airbase the poms built there to keep the Argentines away.

Ta dah... for the month or two before the population starves to death the Falklands is the only remaining world power

I doubt if they would starve to death unless there's a lot of fallout. You have a lot of sheep and the neighbouring seas are very rich. However the male/female ratio would make life interesting.

This is ridiculous. No offense meant, but its impossible under these restrictions.
