Palestinian refugees from Israel proper do not get a right to return but they do get compensation (Paid for by Europe and the US because the creation of Israel was essentially compensation for our crimes against Jews over the previous 2 000 years.

No Palestinian leadership could compromise on this issue at this point in time, any that tried would rapidly cease to be a) the leadership, or b) alive. This is just about a no-negotiable point as far as the refugees are concerned, and is the prime point of contention.
