What if Charles Manson didn't exist?

This thread is for precisely that.... Before Charles Manson, recreational drugs were viewed as something that wasn't insanely bad like it is now. My questions are essentially, what laws would be passed if he didn't exist.
Please remember, I do not do drugs, nor should you, and this is entirely a thread regarding possible outcomes.

Well, drugs were demonized even without him. Perhaps Sharon Tate would be alive, as would some others. Meanwhile the Beach Boys and a few others would have a few fewer songs.

No Bob, recreational drugs were viewed as bad and bad for you long before Charles Manson gained eternal infamy. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVnEajKdB30

Also, Manson's non-existence would have no noticeable impact on drug laws or drug policy in America.

Sharon Tate doesn't get murdered, which would be a very good thing, but the cultural skyline doesn't change much otherwise. Manson's case provided a living example of why people should fear drug-fueled behaviors, but it certainly wasn't the first example OR the beginning of that fear.
