Thande, are you going to do any maps prior to 1500? A map showing the world in the year 1 and one showing the provinces of the Roman Empire (with some surrounding area for expansion to be edited in) would be nice.

Well Euratlas obviously already has one of those...do you mean you want an easily editable one in PNG/GIF rather than JPG?

And the whole world?? I'm not sure if the Roman provinces would be big enough to show up on that scale, and most of it would just be blank no-organised-government...

I meant two maps - one for the world in the year 1 (NOT showing the individual provinces), and one on a smaller scale that would be useful for people doing maps for Roman Empire timelines.

So most of the world map would be blank space - well, how hard can that be to draw?

I've never heard of Euratlas before so I will check it out.

It's www.euratlas.net

Very useful for source maps, although they're jpeg and so ineditable (if that's a word)

They're editable, it just takes so much work it's easier to duplicate them onto a blank map (like I had done with my earlier map)

Here's a source map I found for 1360: Might turn this into an editable Euro map if anyone's interested.

Map is simply a copy of that in the DK Atlas of World History. Take it up with them, not me.

Hey, I'm looking for a world map for 1840 or 45... right before the Mexican-American War, so that you can see Mexico and Texas before they were invaded and annexed/chopped up.

Any help in this department?

Well, I posted a map for 1850 earlier in this thread, and I think the only major differences for 1840/5 would be, as you say, in North America, which you can put on yourself.

Well, I'm working on it, and was just wondering if anyone either had a world map already or knew of some changes of 40/45 from 50. Thanks, though.

BTW, the borders of the United States in 1800 and 1850 look a little off. For example, in 1800, the border of the Mississippi (and subsequently Louisiana in its whole) looks good in the north but suddenly cuts west, dodging it mouth in the 'Louisiana outgrowth' in the Gulf of Mexico. The map of 1812 with the border of New World Spain also has a much smaller Texas... I'll try to fix this up for you and see what you think.

Here's an updated version of Thande's map for 1812. I didn't know exactly to do with Oregon country, though.

And here's a map of 1845. How does it look? The big differences are in the Republic of Texas (how do I color a de facto state that's not exactly de jure?), the Republic of Yucatan (once again, de facto, not de jure), Punjab not being part of the British Empire. Switzerland hasn't formed all the way yet.

How does the Middle East look? I wasn't able to find much information on it, so, if anyone could check the boundaries, that'd be awesome. Also... which one is Afghanistan? I'm using Afghanistan in an ATL and I can't decide which one it is, though I think its the one immediately west of Punjab.
