TL-191 United States Presidential Election 1972

OK. This is the election of 1972. A very important one, take note. In OTL, the Republicans enjoyed a resurge, and got several more states then they was expected to do. Let see if you will give them the same favor here...

Democratic Nomination

President: Barry Goldwater, of New Mexico
Vice President: William E. Miller, of New York

Socialist Nomination

President: John V. Lindsay, of New York
Vice President:
George McGovern, of Dakota

Republican Nomination

President: Eugene McCarthy, of Minnesota
Vice President: John Bayard Anderson, of Illinois

I voted for Goldwater, but glad to see McCarthy leading Lindsay.

OOC: If the AH.commers vote in Barry Goldwater, then... well, this board is definitely centrist. I still believe that McCarthy can win.

TL-191 is a timeline that makes the Republicans look like the better choice.

Well, the Republicans has started to pull ahead. Let hope this doesn't end up like 1952 and 1956...

Aww, but I'm both a McGovern and McCarthy fanboy...but Lindsay is a mediocre candidate at best, and unless somebody kills him the VP slot doesn't matter. McCarthy it is.

Nope, if you vote him in, he lives out his whole term, and dies as per OTL.

Yeah, that's what I thought - you're using the same rules on that as Nerdlinger is, right? OTL death dates?

Yeah, unless Turtledove said otherwise. So Smith dies in 1942, and Lincoln doesn't die in 1865.

McCarthy! Let us return moderation, clear thinking and the Republican Party to the White House!

By the way, if McCarthy wins he will be the first Republican President since Blaine left office in 1885 - 88 years ago.

Welcome to TL-191.

Or at least Turquoise Blue's very interesting expansion of it. I gotta admit, I really like TL-191's political structure for the US - quite a bit more interesting.

Lindsay's closing the gap on McCarthy. The odds of a tie increase....
