AHC&WI: A Metis-Fenian Alliance

During the intersecting years of the Fenian Raids (1866-1871) and the Red River Rebellion there where interactions between the members of the Fenian Brotherhood and the Metis lead by Louis Riel. Each sought action against the Canadian Government due to perseived injustices but neither of their leaders saw eye to eye.

After fleeing to the USA in 1870 Louis Riel was given the suggestion to have the US government intervene on the Metis behaf by William Bernard O'Donoghue who had been treasurer in the provisional government established by Louis Riel at the Red River Colony during the Red River Rebellion. Louis broke with him following the meeting due to disagreeing with him. As Prof. Hereward Senior explains “Riel understood that O’Donoghue was less interested in the welfare of the Métis than in striking a blow against the British Empire.” By 1871 O'Donoghue formed an association with the Fenian Brotherhood, and on 5 October of that year led a force of 35 men on a cross-border raid into Manitoba. Though a few Metis participated the raid failed to attract the support of the all the Métis people, and O'Donoghue was arrested by them and released to American authorities in Minnesota.

What if there had been greater interaction between the Metis and Fenian Brotherhood during the time of their rebellions and instead of avoiding one another late into their rebel activities after they had been much weakend they decided to work together toward common goals?

My challenge to you is to create TL with a Metis-Fenian Alliance and discuss what consiquences it could have.
