TL-191 United States Presidential Election 1940

This election is the first of the TL-191 United States Presidential elections. This is a serious project, and will continue from this, and 1940, up to 1936 and 2012. I will consult for advice from the community after After the End, the one I am using for after 1944, runs out of elections and nominations. Please post in character (TL-191 2012 person voting on a retrospective election)
IC: Featherston is in the Confederacy, waiting to strike at the United States. Shall we vote for Al Smith of the Socialist Party to serve another term as President? (If you do, he dies in 1942, leaving Charles W. La Follette as President) Or, shall we vote for Robert Taft of the Democratic Party? Or, maybe do the impossible and return the Republican Party to power under Wendell Willkie?

Someone voted for Wendell Willkie? Well, that was unexpected...

Will you have a results/discussion thread for this, and will you be doing Wikipedia infoboxes?

Also, you might want to clarify in the OP for these that voters should be in character for 2012 in TL-191 but voting with their OTL political opinions.

Will there be a Confederacy election thread, or does Featherston's election make that uncouth?

I voted Smith, who is probably my favorite President. Sure, he made mistakes, but I don't know if I trust anyone else to deal with Featherston.

Yeah, I should, but I think it would be ideal after a week. Wiki infoboxes? I have got better at this, but I would need advice on certain stuff.

OOC: Someone else can do it, I prefer just to focus on the US, really, since there is more info.

Well, it looks like the Republicans are politically significant again, and the Democrats win less then the Republicans... Anybody want to tell me why?

Yes. The 1939 election will have options for "Jake Featherston (Freedom)", "Token Whig (vote goes to Featherston)" and "Token Radical Liberal (vote goes to Featherston)."

What a shock, more people voted for Socialists than anybody else in yet another 191 election.

OOC: This is supposed to be in-character. Oh, well... I'm expecting Charles W. La Follette to win 1944, because of his party, and his surname.

The polls haven't been open very long non-Socialists, there's still time to help Taft out.

This election is interesting in that all 3 candidates will be dead before their term is up. Who were Taft and Wilkie's running mates? This is assuming, of course, that we are following the same rules as Nerdlinger's Timeline 191 retrospective elections. Good book series by the way, a little on the nose making the Germans almost identical to the Confederacy though.

OOC: *Heh, heh.

IC: Yeah. I think Willkie's running mate was Charles L. McNary, and Taft's was Frank Gannett.

OOC: Sorry, but my project is based on OTL, not TL-191.

OOC: He is calling OTL TL-191. The "Germans almost identical to the Confederacy" is kinda clear on that... We talk in-character here.

OOC: I wasn't sure if he was IC or not. This may be a source of confusion....

OOC: Ask yourself, how different would Smith be? But, Honest Abe became Socialist Abe... I generally look at the Dems as rightie, the Socialists leftie, and the Reps classical liberal, and later (after 1944) libertarian.
