While a small group of staff at the British Embassy attempted to begin setting up an intelligence operation they did not realize that the Hawaiian knew all about it. The Hawaiian Intelligence service had quickly gained a lot of experience as a result of its involvement in the Central American Republic. It now had agents in place in that country and Jamaica . What was a closely kept secret was that Hawaii had also an agent in Mexico.
The Hawaiian Intelligence Chief could care less about British efforts to set up an intelligence network in the Americas but if they attempted to find out any secret that the Hawaiian Government didn't want them to know then that would result in Britain being embarrassed. The new Anglo-Hawaiian Bank set up a branch in the Central American Republic. This would help to finance some projects and make trade easier.

Hawaii had received a lot of immigrant over the years many of them had come from all over the world. One of those people that had come to Hawaii as a child with his parents was John Gama. He had come to Hawaii before the Fall and had benefited from going to school in the nation. He had graduated from High School and had won a scholarship to go to the University of Hawaii. Upon graduating he looked at joining the Military to help pay back the nation for all that it had given to him. One of the people that was at the University happen to be a representative from the Intelligence side of the military.
John was an outstanding candidate. He spoke English, Portuguese, Spanish, , Japanese and Chinese. It seemed that he had a nack for learning languages. He had graduated with a degree in engineering. He was asked to come to the Ministry of Military Affairs and from there he was escorted to a room and met with someone from the Hawaiian Secret Service. John would be commissioned as an officer in the Army. He would receive military and then intelligence agent training. He would then go to the Central American Republic and live there for several months. Then he would be infiltrated into Mexico. Last edited by chris N; August 2nd, 2012 at 04:08 PM.. |

Perhaps Mr. Gama can infiltrate a company dealing with Mexico's military (or join it, in case they need foreign engineers).

Mr Gama's cover was carefully set up . He would retain his real name but would have credentials indicating that he was a graduate of a Spanish University and had relocated to the America's after the troubles started to affect Spain. He was an engineer who knew how to build bridges and roads but who also knew how to build fortifications. He was interested in making some "real Money" for a change and that was why he decided to come to Mexico It was believed that the Mexicans would be very interested especially as he would be carrying a letter of introduction from a Spanish officer known to the mexican authorities. Since things had gone down hil in Europe they would be unable to check.

The Hawaiians had been slowly and carefully working to build up an intelligence operation in Mexico. Everything had to be done with great care as any mistake could lead to a major disaster. Mr Gama's cover was checked and rechecked. People working for the Hawaiians were checked out at least five times. Lives were at stake. Finally with a line of communications open between Mr Gama and Hawaii things were given a go. Coded messages would be sent from Mexico to the Central American Republic and from there they would be picked up and sent by dispatch boat to Hawaii.. Arrangements were made by the Intelligence service with the Royal Hawaiian Navy in the event that Mr Gama would have to make a quick escape from Mexico.
Unbenost to anyone the Royal Hawaiian Navy had made some contact with Americans, fishermen. This was part of a growing unoffical look at what was happening in California. |

Mr Gama's arrival in Southern Mexico drew the attention of the local government official after he had been hired to correct a problem with a local bridge that was in a bad state. He directed the efforts and restored the ability of the people to use it.
The Mexican Military could use the abilities of Mr Gama in there efforts to make sure that supplies were able to reach their forces in California. Mr Gama had been told that he was to stay out of situations that might bring him into a combat zone. |

Mr Gama was hired by the Mexican Government and began to work on the transportation problem regarding moving gods from Mexico City to the troops in California. It was amazing how much information he was simply able to get his hands on. Within a short amount of time he knew the strength od Mexican forces in California and the capacity of the train to move the goods to the north. There were a number of possible points that the destruction of a bridge or rail line could cause a world of hurt.

Mr Gama was able to get some idea as to what was going on in California and the American Southwest by the amount of supplies that were being sent into the US by the Mexicans. He also found that some of the soldiers tended to be talkative now that they were on leave in Mexico. Still he began to realize that he was unlikely to find out too much when one day someone carelessly left a dispatch from California out in the open. For the first time he had seen just how many Mexican troops were in the state.

While Hawaii's spy in Mexico was making some finds a number of things were happening . In the Western Pacific there were reports of Raids on some of the Islands. The Hawaiian and Royal Navy forces were investigating. There had also been some attacks on shipping in Philippine waters.
In Victoria there was some construction underway as a result of population growth. In Hawaii the former Prime Minister was making great progress health wise. He returned to the floor of the House to address the Parlaiment. |

Sir Walter's speech to the parliament was well received. Several members of the opposition party came over to welcome the former prime Minister back to the House. Standford Dole said that everyone had missed him and he looked forward to Sir Walter's permanent return to the House.
The man who was Prime Minister and the man who had been Prime Minister embrassed one another. They were old friends and shared a lot of the same beliefs. It was still had to believe that Walter had been Knighted by the British Queen. Upon leaving the chamber the Prime Minister was handed a note by an aide. He looked at it and asked the aide is everyone there. The aide said the Director is there as are the Military heads and the Police Inspector. Very well said the Prime Minister. Ask the Minister of the Navy to join me while I get Sir Walter. |

The Royal Hawaiian Marines were now landed in the Central American Republic. It was the largest deployment of Hawaiian forces since a Hawaiian Naval and Marine force was landed in Guam.

The Prime Minister's meeting with the Director of Intelligence and the Police Inspector , who had once been an intelligence agent left him with a feeling that to prevent a bigger war Hawaii must take a lot more chances than he would like to take. Both Mexico and Gran Columbia must be convinced that they must stop their expansion plans or they would pay a terrible price.
The government of Jamaica had been convinced that a United action might do the trick. The Prime Minister called upon his majesty to notify him that he was calling up the Hawaiian Military reservist and the fleet was now to go onto a wartime footing. |

Prime Minister Bishop and aides traveled to the new British Embassy to confer with the British Ambassador with regards to the current problem. Hawaii knew that Great Britain's resources were still stretched but needed assurance that the British would supply the coal need and might be willing to make a token show of force. Currently the Hawaiian had a stockpile of coal that would allow them to function for over a year without any additional supplies ( and since there would be coal, Iron and copper coming from Vancouver that would stretch).
The Hawaiian Government was tired of seeing bullies take advantage of the situation. Some countries were out of control and needed to be reigned in. |

British Embassy. Talks were held between the Government of Hawaii and Great Britain at the Embassy. The British Ambassador stated that after reading the reports about the activities of the Mexican government something had to be done.
Another topic that was brought up was the possible construction of a canal through the Central American Republic. The Central American Republic stood ready to support the project with Land grants and construction permits. Investors from the British Empire and Hawaii had joined together and raised the sum 0f 69 million dollars. The thought was that they would need a lot more money and so there was consideration of either issuing stock of asking the British and Hawaiian Governments to buy in. Two routes were considered . Comments please. Last edited by chris N; August 8th, 2012 at 05:53 PM.. |

Work on the canal continued 7 days a week. Unlike the canal that was built in Panama in OTL this one did not result in the massive loss of Human life to injuries and illness. Compromises had to be made but soon the effort from the Pacific side showed results.

Okay, I think you've completely gone off track here. The British government is entirely in turmoil, not to mention that its economy is probably collapsing because the great disaster and all resources will be spent evacuating the British Isles for sunnier climes. Where does these two entries fit into the general timeline of event in the back of Peshawar Lancers?
Climatic change will be worldwide so things should be hard in Central America also. Hawaii has neither the financial nor manufacturing capability to under take building a canal and the British have other greater problems to solve.
