WI: Different partition of palestine

What if, in 1947, there was a different partition of Palestine. What if, instead of creating a one state that was majority Palestinian, and one evenly split between Jews and Palestinians, a more sensible plan was adopted, an actual majority-Jewish state was created. Would the 1948 Arab-Israeli War still happen? Would Jordan and Egypt still attempt a blatant land grab afterwards? Would the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as we know it still exist? How would this effect Arab nationalism, and later extremists of both religions? sensible partition.png
A rough sketch of what I have in mind. Would a partition that looked more line this lead to a more peaceful Levant, or is major conflict inevitable after partition?

Peaceful - no not really but your map does have one possible effect. The Jordanians were always the least bothered by Israel (in relative terms) and barely fought in the 1948 War, even organising with their enemy to basically engage in manouveres with low bodycounts that achieved little.

The Jordanians key interest was a Mediterranean Port and was what saw them finally 'play for real' - none of the Arab powers really wanted a Palestinian state, they wanted more territory.

Say King Hussein has a chat with the Isrealis and the IDF position themselves so the Jordanians can race to Gaza practically unmolested, gaining their port. Cue armed conflict between the Egyptians and Jordanians, which basically leaves the Isrealis free to battle the Syrians and Iraqis 'volunteers'.

Hussein makes his new gains in the south a special area for refugees and keeps up the sabre rattlings to Tel Aviv, aware he has no intention of doing anything.

Then its just a case of how the Egyptian situation pans out, but Jordan becomes a pseudo-ally of Israel.

Maybe - not my strong area by a stretch.

Sounds plausible, except it would be King Abdullah, not King Hussein. Abdullah was killed in front of Hussein at the Dome of the Rock when he went to visit Jerusalem after the '48 war. IIRC it was only a medal that Hussein had been persuaded by Abdullah to wear that saved his life.

First of all, the UN Partition Plan did call for a Jewish-majority state - the borders it proposed would have left the Jewish state 55% Jewish, which would have increased dramatically following Jewish emigration.

Second, no, a slightly different partition plan, such as one that left the Negev with the Arab State, would not have changed the fact that most Palestinians and Arabs opposed any division of the mandate, since any plausible division would have left many Arabs in a non-Arab state. The only compromise the Palestinians or the Arabs would have accepted was a joint state, and once the Zionist movement abandoned that idea some kind of conflict was inevitable.

Lastly, Jordan (then "Transjordan") was willing to partition the land and basically did so with Israel, though they got less land than they had hoped. The remaining Arab states really had no intention of annexing anything out of the Palestine Mandate.
