What's that got to do with Serbia? It looks vaguely "Commie-Nazi" what with the combination of the overall Nazi-esque flag design and angular fascistic eagle coupled to the cogwheel symbolism one associates with communist and similar regimes.

Not the impression I've gotten from looking at comments/asking people. And I do agree that it is a bit of an odd decision, not that I particularly dislike it. Playing around with flags is always going to upset some people, that's the point of symbolism.

maybe just a minor modification: the crown could be tilted a bit to follow the angle of the head of the eagle. Otherwise, nice subtle way to recuperate a symbol.

Thanks, Marc!

I know, but I couldn't figure out a way to do it in my programs.

That would be an awesome fascist Byzantium flag (if the white things were of the proper orientation).

Well it was more of a flag for the pseudo-Nazi labour organization that had been created in Serbia. I just decided to take the cog, white out the swatzika, and add something that looked enough like an eagle to pass. Though I am kicking myself now that I didn't add firesteels like Marc just did.

My proposal for the flag of a union between France, England and Scotland in Thespitron6000's TL A More Personal Union

The triple crowns, of course, represent the 3 kingdoms under Henri III le Cyclope.

So the flag is a red X?

It could be personnal taste but the mixture of crosses and arms on the same flag look odd to me. It might simply be that I'm used to seeing them on separate designs.

Put the firesteels/Cyrillic S's the right way and it would look better, and possibly use the actual Serbian eagle as well (potentially grasping swords in its talons?)

Many people, many better vexillographers than I, have attempted to combine the British (or English and Scottish) and French flags. It does remind me of an alternate idea I was messing around with; why not combine the colours and not just the designs. I mean it was all the rage in Germany.

So you could take the colours of the arms, blue and gold for France, red and gold for England and gold and red for Scotland, and combine them into something like this (with or without arms):

Or, you could say, unlike some countries, that the national colours aren't the same as the colours from the arms. In which case you would take them from the flags, blue and white for France, red and white for England, blue and white for Scotland. You could quite easily combine them into something like this:

And quite honestly I made that following the above thought process, and laughed.

if by "right way" you mean straight, I disagree not from an heraldic but from a visual point of view: the central object is dynamic and by having the firesteels at an angle you reinforce that image.

I agree with the eagle though unless within the ATL the organisation represented purposfully chose an eagle with a certain position (like the eagle of the luftwaffe).

Something based on a similar logic I came up with:

the problem that one of the british member brought up was that it would be perceiced as "continental" by most british subject due to the lack of any real tradition of bi/tri-color in the isles.

Whoa, I LIKE it! Normally Anglo-French Union flags make me cringe at their ham-fistedness, but that one's really well done.

I like it, would switch France and Scotland around, though, for reasons of population and aesthetics. Or perhaps use my example on the last page (Quarterly I and IV Great Britain (England impaling Scotland), II France, III Ireland).

I took inspiration from the early flags of Spain, which were arms-based, and as the unification in this timeline is around 1600, I thought it made sense at the time.
