Does not have to be before 1900, but it'll probably require a POD before it.
This is a thread topic Xwarq posted in the pre-1900 board, and I think it could be a cool map idea.

Unfortunately it's rather late here in Britistan, so the thread itself will be up tomorrow. Those of you who wish to start making maps before then are free to do so, of course.

I agree. A good title for such a challenge might be "What Great Things Past", but I'm not very good with titles, so someone probably has something better.

Perhaps Xwarq could come up with one, although that is a good title.

I think that title's fine, but if I ought to come up with one, then I'd say Natio Vetus, Gloria Nova--Old Nation, New Glory.

EDIT: Or Revanche Supreme.

My suggestion, for the one after Dancing with the Devil:

Only in Epirus: Show a map of one or several Pyrrhic Victories, and the eventual results of the war these battles were fought in.

It also occurs to me that I never announced who won MotF 32: Never Again. So, without further ado, the honoured winner is:

Japhy!

Japhy's not a regular participant in the MotF contest, but his entry for this round was very interesting, and sounds exactly like a prediction of the future from a British officer in India circa 1938. And, frankly, if Nazis funnelling weapons to an independent Hyderabad in order to fight a proxy war against the British Dominion of India isn't pretty freaking awesome then I don't know what is. Well done, Japhy!

Oh, question about MotF 34-- does it have to be two distinct polities, or can it be diametrically-opposed groups within a single state?

Ooo, interesting idea! I don't see why it couldn't be two diametrically opposed groups within a single state, so go right ahead.

My fellow map-fanatics,

Could it be possible to extend the deadline past the weekend on MotF 34? No biggie if not, but what with the low level of submissions so far and my own desire for more time, I figured I'd put it out there.

Also, great map as always, B. Munro, though you did forget to put a '4' on Africa to denote Deutsche West Africa.

Cheers,
-Tijmen

If there are less than 4 submissions by the current deadline, then I think extending it again may be a good idea.

Thanks, I'll fix that, if Krall doesn't object.

I do not object; you're free to edit your submission at any time prior to the deadline.

Luverly map, Peter Fergus.

Jman, a couple suggestions for editing:

"The Western Alliance, still in debt to Russia from the Crisis and needing even more money to rebuild its shattered infrastructure, agreed, and was quickly subsumed into its huge ally" - change this. A huge ally with under 40% of the WA's population? And even if the relative GNP of the WA dropped by 50%, it still would have something like seven times Russia's GNP...

Secondly, wierd random internal divisions make Baby Jesus cry.

Whilst we do now have 4 submissions for MotF 34 I have issues regarding the plausibility of Jman's entry, so I believe I shall extend this contest another week, just to make sure.

We rather need to decide on a challenge for next fortnight. There have been a few good suggestions over the past couple of weeks - are there any suggestions in particular that you guys want to see?

How about a culture map? it could be called The Culture of those Lands
Maybe a language one instead? it could be called Those Strange Tongues
Either way, I think one focusing on something else then nations would be good.

A challenge that focuses on a linguistic map might be interesting, but what would the challenge itself be? "Make a linguistic map of a region that is dominated by a language or language family which did not exist in OTL, or which did not dominate that region in OTL"?
