It needs a good name though - perhaps something from a quote about the Cold War, like "The Shooting War is Over" ("Although the shooting war is over, we are in the midst of a cold war which is getting warmer.") or "Let Us not be Deceived" ("Let us not be deceived — we are today in the midst of a cold war."), or perhaps something shorter like "Mutually Assured" or "Getting Warmer"?
Hmm. I'm kind of ambivalent on the topic itself, but as names go, I feel like "Let Us Not Be Deceived" has a better ring to it. "The Shooting War Is Over" sounds like something that might be more focused on a peace treaty or something.

Yeah, it seems that's the case, thinking closer about it. How about "Your Neighbour Could Be A ..."?

I like pretty much any of the suggested names for said challenge (though I'm not to fond of "Your Neighbour Could Be A..."), but as tormsen was basically the original suggester of that challenge I think it's appropriate if they choose the challenge name.

There's only a few days left in MotF 61: The Petting Zoo and we've only got one entry at the moment. I'm still planning to enter; how about the rest of you? Any late entrants?

I have an idea, and a base map, but my schedule just became really busy all of a sudden, so I don't know if I'll be able to make it.

In that case, I like the poetry of Let Us not be Deceived, out of the name suggestions so far.

I might enter, depending on whether I find a good enough set of tools- I had a wonderful idea around two in the morning yesterday.

Also, a potential idea, though I do like the Let Us Not Be Decieved idea-

Catastrophe (Almost) Averted
Show a map where a a major Horrible Event was about to happen, but averted at the last second- but not before some significant damage was done. Examples: War of the Worlds: The Martians died before they could destroy the rest of the planet, but London and environs are an absolute mess. Deep Impact: Yeah, the big rock was blown up, but the little one still wiped out the Atlantic seaboard. Fail Safe: Nuclear war was averted, but at the cost of New York and Moscow.

I support The Shooting War is Over for MOTF 62

And I am planning on participating in the Petting Zoo.

Would it be possible to extend the current contest a bit? I somehow or other have been unable to get to a map this week, but I did have an idea....

Maybe, but I can't extend the contest for one person. Is there anyone else would would be able to enter if I extended the contest for a week? Kaiphranos, I know you said you had an idea, but became really busy recently - how about the rest of you?

Yeah, I'll give it a shot.

Okay, B_Munro and Gryphon have both said that they might be able to enter if the contest is extended, Kaiphranos also said that he has the idea and resources for map but has been busy lately, and I need a couple more free hours to finish my map for this contest. We also haven't chosen what the next MotF round is going to be yet. So, I've decided to extend this round of MotF for a week.

MotF 61: The Petting Zoo has been extended by one week. The new deadline is Saturday 30th of June.

Hopefully we get a good few more entries in this next week!

The end of MotF 61 is only four days away and we still need a challenge for MotF 62! Here are the most popular challenges from the past few weeks - please do tell me what you think of them, or suggest other challenges if you'd prefer them!

Quote:
Air, Water, Earth, Fire

Make a map showing the effects of an alternate natural disaster.
Note: Should this include OTL natural disasters that are much more/much less devastating than they historically were? I think that allowing much more devastating versions of OTL disasters would be more in the spirit of the challenge.

Quote:
Let Us Not Be Deceived

Make a map showing a cold war scenario where one or both of the participants claim to follow an ideology other than Communism or Liberal Democracy.
Quote:
The People's Choice

Make a map showing the results of an election that is considered highly controversial or outright rigged.
Quote:
Your x Will Arrive in 5 Minutes

Make a map showing an alternate transport network.
Note: Do you think we should allow mild ASB for this challenge? Fantasy worlds, blatant historical implausibility, and outright magic still wouldn't be allowed, but I'd like to allow things like steampunk train networks, paleofuture atomic jet car highways, and trade routes in a post-nuclear apocalypse world.

In the event that either of these are selected, both tweaks seem reasonable to me, though I think Let Us Not Be Deceived would be the best choice for MotF 62.

I like the idea of leaving The People's Choice until November, and say yes on both of your other points. Otherwise I'm staying agnostic on this one for the moment at least.

So, you have no preference as to which challenge is chosen for the next round? Is that right?

Hell, I would encourage ASB/fantasy entries for the transport challenge.

Where would you draw the line, though? Would you allow fantasy worlds (e.g. Middle Earth)?

Also, what do you think of the posted challenges? Are there any other challenges you'd prefer?

I never made any restrictions on ASBness other than the insistence that ground transport take the primary role on the map and a stronger emphasis on network design than what was the case in the previous transport challenge. (The latter of which I'm defining as: Don't just show what destinations are served, but also how they are served)

So, as long as any of those options fills the two rules I have postulated for the challenges (And all three you suggested would be able to), then a little ASBness is okay in my book.

Well, the "Your X Will Arrive in Five Minutes" that I posted yesterday was just a renamed version of "All Aboard", as someone suggested that we use your title instead. If you'd rather I didn't use your title for "All Aboad 2" that's fine, but I'm afraid don't support your restrictions on the type of transport that should be shown and would much, much rather just have a rerun of "All Aboard".
