WI: Welsh Politics 1950s

From 1950-1955 there was a widely supported 'Parliament for Wales' campaign resulting in a large petition being presented to the Conservative Government.

At this time, neither the Conservative Party or the Labour Party supported any form of devolution. However about half a dozen Welsh Labour MPs supported the 'Parliament for Wales' campaign. These MPs were threatened with expulsion if they did not fall back into line. However, the Labour leadership during this period was split along completely different lines and the actions of their devolutionists went unpunished.

What If the Labour Party had been more united and therefore more concerned with differences over Welsh policy?

Got any figures? I know Gwylym Lloyd-George officially concectrated Cardiff as the Welsh capital in 1955 and I've vaguely heard of the campaign but how big was it?

Not sure what figures you are after but there are figures out there if you want to find some.

It was a big campaign which had broad community support. Again there is further info out there if you want it.
