AH Challenge: Icelandic Empire

Lately I've been wondering if there's any possibility for Iceland to have had an empire. And that's pretty much the challenge, the empire could simply be Greenland or more, but your POD starts from 930, when the Commonwealth of Iceland was formed, until the 1500's. Oh and it has to stay independent during that whole time. Go!

No Civil War. They go on to form an allliance with Sweden and Denmark, Iceland trading with them and having giving them acseess to the Atlentic.
Icelandic explorers discover Newfoundland in 1489. They name it Nýr Landslag. They immeaditlly begin colonizing it.
By 1502, the Icelandic Empire has extensive colonies in OTL Canada and New England.
Iceland then declares war on it's nearby neaighbor, Findland. They invade through the sea, obviously, but do well. By 1522, they make peace with Finland and vassilize it. Icelnadic Empire.

An Icelandic Empire would most likely incorporate the Faroes, the Shetland Isles, the Orkney Isles and possibly northern Scotland, maybe as far south as the Great Glen.

Denmark did in 930 and throughout it's entire history have access to the Atlantic, but an alliance with Sweden would probably be the best way to remain independent of Norway...
Colonization would be very, very, very difficult, Iceland has such small population.
Maybe they can colonize Greenland and have temporary dominance over parts of Canada. Anything more is ASB
I don't understand invasion of Finland bit. Finland was colonized by Sweden during the medieval and was the eastern half of the Swedish Kingdom until it was conquered by Russia during the Napoleonic wars.
It's entirely ASB for Iceland of all countries to conquer Finland from Sweden.
