Copenhaver Draws National Endorsement In Missouri Senate Race Missouri Attorney General Josh Copenhaver’s Senate campaign picked up some steam yesterday as he was endorsed strongly by former Illinois Governor Byron McAlster – his first high profile national endorsement. McAlster, who many expect to be a candidate for President in 2014, appeared with Copenhaver at a rally yesterday saying “The Attorney General has a terrific record, and is to my mind the best man to guide the state’s future.” Governor McAlster is well known in Missouri, which shares selected TV markets with Illinois, and is a welcome boost for Copenhaver who tops polls as the likely Democratic candidate. The race for the Republican nomination took another turn yesterday as State Senator Stapleton Ash confirmed his intention to challenge appointed Senator Lewis Henderson for his party’s nomination. Party sources suggest that people close to Governor Henry Shallick were encouraging Ash to stay out of the race clearing the path to the nomination for Henderson, but the 48 year old Springfield native appears to have ignored their advice saying yesterday “Our state needs to have a discussion about who is best served to represent them – a backroom appointment is not the way forward.” Initial polling on the Republican side shows Henderson as favourite. The race remains in a state of flux with decisions still expected by Congressman Zac Thibodeaux and former State Party Chair Rebecca Coplin. |

Did Kendrick Endorse Laramaki? Confusion reigned in Indiana last night after former Governor and current Treasury Secretary Stephen Kendrick appeared to endorse Indianapolis Mayor Jacob Laramaki in the primary battle for Indiana’s vacant Senate seat. Kendrick who was travelling back from a meeting of G20 finance ministers was asked whether he was paying any attention to politics back in his home state. His reply raised a few eyebrows when he said “yeah, of course – I think Emily (Rudden) is doing an excellent job and I’m very impressed by Mayor Laramaki, he’d make an excellent Senator.” After the story broke Kendrick’s camp attempted to walk back the comments saying “Secretary Kendrick is entirely impartial and didn’t mean this as an endorsement in any way – he has no intention of endorsing any candidates and will support whoever the party nominates.” The Senate race front runner Mitchell Harris didn’t seem to be placated by that saying forcefully “Secretary Kendrick should focus on the economy and keep his nose out of Indiana politics.” |

Buckland Under Fire As Spokesman Quits Former Indiana Governor Jack Buckland was under fire tonight after his spokesman Ben Riley quit amid accusations of a concerted effort to cover up the hospital admission of the former Governor just before Christmas. Buckland was taken to hospital early on Christmas Eve after reporting chest pains. However, his campaign team denied that he had been admitted at all claiming that the story was created by the campaign of Mitchell Harris, the Republican front runner. The campaign didn’t actually admit that Governor Buckland had indeed been treated for chest pains until Boxing Day when he was photographed leaving hospital – they released a statement confirming that a diagnosis of a chest infection had been made and that doctors had confirmed he could be released. Riley announced his resignation today but didn’t go quietly telling reporters “This is in no way an admission that I was involved in any conspiracy. At no point did I actively mislead the press or the voters.” Of course leading Republicans have jumped on this with Harris saying “It’s difficult to believe that the spokesman has resigned yet nobody has taken any responsibility for this attempt to hoodwink the people of Indiana. We must hear from Governor Buckland as to what he knew and who decided that they wanted to hide his medical history.” |

Major Democratic Brings Big Surprises: Ross Announces for Governor, Wyatt for Senate; Derrick, Goodwin and Fitzpatrick All Endorse. At a major rally in Annapolis today, Maryland Democrats laid out a unified campaign, as Governor Joe Derrick and Senator Barry Goodwin officially endorsed their chosen successors-Congressman Daniel Ross and former Congresswoman Andrea Wyatt, who announced that they would be running for Governor and Senator respectively. The rally, attended by 5,000, was held in Annapolis' Convention Center, and was attended by much of the hierarchy of the Maryland Democratic Party, including the Speaker of the House of Delegates and President of the Senate, as well as Congressmen Andrew Fitzpatrick and Benjamin Emanuel. Congressman Ross was the first to speak, saying that the state was "on a progressive path, and needs continuing strong leadership in the Governor's Mansion, and on the federal level in order to ensure that Maryland stays that way! That's why today, I'm officially announcing my campaign to be the next Governor of the great state of Maryland!" Ross was elected in 2002, at the age of 26, and has represented the Maryland 3rd since that time. Former Congresswoman Wyatt was the next to speak, and she also had a campaign announcement: "I will be running to be the next Senator for Maryland, and though I know that I can never replace Sam Whiteside, I will do my very best to live up to his legacy, and serve the people of this great state." Wyatt served as the Democratic nominee against Senator Dan Kalmbach in 2010, and has been working with several think tanks and universities since then. Governor Derrick and Senator Goodwin spoke next and each endorsed their respective hopeful successors, as Derrick called Ross "the right man to keep Maryland on the right track," and Goodwin stated that Wyatt "would be a fitting representative for the people in the Senate, and someone who could live up to the immense legacy of Sam Whiteside." Ross and Wyatt also took the time to endorse each other. In a press conference afterwards, more surprises emerged, as Congressman Andrew Fitzpatrick offered his endorsement to both Wyatt and Ross. Fitzpatrick had been rumored to be considering a run of his own for either of those offices, but instead he stated that "Representing the Fifth District is enough for me. I believe that Dan Ross will make an excellent Governor, and he has my support all the way, as does Andi Wyatt for the Senate. The only thing I'll be running for in 2012 is reelection." While much of the day had a festive mood, some dark clouds loomed, as State Senator Sean Henley, who had expected Wyatt's endorsement in his run for the Governor's Mansion, did not attend the event. |

Sunday January 15th 2012 Lamont "I am going to run for London Mayor" Former Chancellor Daniel Lamont announced on the Andrew Marr show this morning that he is going to run for the Labour nomination for Labour Mayor in 2014. It was unsure what he was planning but he said he had "looked very seriousally" at running for the Labour leadership he said he decided to to keep to the party line in that no candidate should run against Acting-Leader Ed Miller. On asking why he had decided to run for Mayor "London needs a proven experienced man to run against Henry Reed. It needs someone to stand up for the people of the city". He said he "respected" the other probable candidates, former Deputy-Prime Minister Jack Norris and the Former Leader of Lambeth Council Margo Lynn, but he said "I am the only candidate that can beat Henry Reed in 2014". He said that the Former Prime-Minister had ran a "good campaign to win in 2010" but "Labour had helped him to win because we where divided between Gerald(Fox) and Ben(Stanley). United we would have won". Many believe with Lamont's announcement that Margo Lynn will not seek the nomination, setting up a race between Lamont and Norris. The result will be announced at the Party Conference in September. Last edited by Marky Bunny; January 15th, 2012 at 07:54 PM.. |

WSB-TV Atlanta Breaking News Lobell Dies of Massive Stroke Washington At 3:43 EST, Senator Max Lobell I (R-GA) died at George Washington Univeristy Hospial from a stroke. He was received by the hospital after collapsing in his chair during an interview with this station. He died, according to the Senator's office, with his immediate family at his bedside. The late Senator's grandson, Senator Max Lobell III, will release a statement before the end of the day. The first Republican elected to the Senate from Georgia since Reconstruction, Max Lobell was a former Democrat, switching parties shortly after the election of President Reagan. "At that moment, I realized that the Democrats had left me," recalled the late Senator, " Not even my good friend Jimmy Carter represented my values of limited government. No wonder many of my fellow Democrats voted for the Gipper." Since his election to the Senate from the House in 1982, Senator Lobell became a key ally of Presidents Reagan, Bush, and Lassiter. Although he fought bitterly against Democratic President Newman, he enjoyed a cordial relationship with President Bartlett, and even helped in the passage of campaign finance reform legislation. In 2009, the Senator endorsed Matt Skinner for the presidency, despite the latter's open homosexuality. After Skinner dropped out, Lobell threw his support behind then Former Acting President Glenn Allen Walken, who would win the Senator's home state of Georgia in the 2010 Republican primaries. The most poignant part of his career occurred earlier this year when he enjoyed the privilege of seeing his grandson Max Lobell III sworn in as junior senator from Georgia. For the first time in the history of the Senate, a grandfather and grandson have served together in the upper house. ![]() Max Lobell I (R-Ga) 1931 - 2012 Last edited by MasterSanders; January 15th, 2012 at 08:41 PM.. |

From the Office of Senator Max Lobell, III
The Senator is grieved over the death of his grandfather whom he greatly admired since childhood. This comes as an even greater tragedy as Senator Lobell the Elder approached his thirtieth year as a member of this body. He will be greatly missed. The senior Lobell was not just a mere politician, but a statesman, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a Christian, and a friend. He stood up for what he believed was right, but was not afraid to work with others for the greater good. Few men were, are, or will be like him. He experienced the unique joy of serving along side his grandson as colleagues in the Senate, if even for a year. Few other statesman will ever enjoy such a rare and special occurrence. He will be buried in the Georgia clay he loved so much in the town of his birth, Canton. We ask that the media respectfully refrain from requesting interviews with the late senator's immediate family, or Senator Lobell the Younger and his immediate family until after the burial, the date of which shall be determined within the next 24 hours. |

Monday January 16th 2012 Lamont running for London Mayor will help Reed in 2014 The suprise news yesterday, that the former Chancellor Daniel Lamont was going to run for Labour . He will face almost certainly Former Deputy-Prime-Minister Jack Norris and now less likely the Former Leader of Lambeth Council Margo Lynn. One suspects in a straight fight between Lamont and Norris in the Labour electoral college 50% spilt between Labour members in the capital and the Trade Unions, Lamont will probably win, but this could well play into the hands of Henry Reed. Reed has proved to be a populist Mayor rather than a Conservative one. Norris as the Labour candidate would to be a close race, Lamont would be the weakest candidate. Even if Norris beats Lamont one supsects he will be forced more to the left, which will damage him against Henry Reed. One can imagine that the Conservative campaign would relish in taking on Lamont, and using his record at Number Eleven against him. Indeed I could write some of the adverts and attacks against Lamont already. It will be interesting to watch the Labour nomination battle over the next few months. Buckland Struggling Under Fire From Rivals Jack Buckland has long been considered one of Indiana’s premier political minds, his two gubernatorial campaigns remain things of legend and the revelations in his book of how he worked his way into a high profile cabinet position in the Bartlet administration have spawned hundreds of articles and comment. With that in mind the mess he’s got himself into over his admission to hospital over the Christmas holidays is all the more difficult to believe. Buckland now finds himself trailing both Republican Congressman Mitchell Harris and Indianapolis Mayor Jacob Laramaki – the two perspective GOP candidates – in most polls carried out over the past week, a dramatic reversal from the double digit leads he has enjoyed since the race began. The resignation of his press secretary Ben Riley was clearly designed to stem the bleeding but has done the exact opposite, fanning attacks from first Harris then yesterday from Laramaki. Mayor Laramaki told reporters yesterday that “Governor Buckland has behaved with staggering arrogance. He still refuses to explain exactly what happened and what his role in it was. He seems to think that throwing his press secretary under the bus is all he needs to do, I think it’s pretty clear that he needs to come clean with the people of Indiana.” Buckland’s camp were holding to their previous position that it was simply a breakdown in communication caused by the holiday period, but pressure is building on the former Secretary of Labour to explain the situation. |

Republicans Circle As Wyatt Candidacy Creates Pick Up Opportunity For much of this election cycle Maryland has been seen as very likely hold for the Democrats in the race to replace Senator Sam Whiteside. That seems to have been thrown into doubt by the decision of the Democrats to unite behind Congresswoman Andi Wyatt, who previously failed in a bid to unseat Senator Dan Kalmbach. In polling up until now has suggested that the Democrats would hold but Wyatt polls much poorer than a generic candidate – mainly due to the damage she sustained in her race with Kalmbach, running again so soon has given almost no time for those wounds to heal. As a result it’s now expected that former Annapolis Mayor Charlie O’Hare will jump into the race making this a serious and unlikely pick up opportunity for the Republicans. The Wyatt camp moved quickly to reassure nervous Democrats saying that the “Congresswoman has learned a lot of lessons from her previous bid and thinks she’s well placed to win the seat.” Tom Tyler, who has been reporting on Maryland politics for thirty years cast doubt on Wyatt’s claims. “Congresswoman Wyatt has a high negative rating and is a strange choice for Democrats. She showed signs of cracking under a relentless attack by Senator Kalmbach in 2010 – everyone remembers the Meet The Press breakdown – and voters haven’t forgotten any of that. Charlie O’Hare is not necessarily a dream candidate but Wyatt makes this a serious pick up opportunity for the GOP.” |

Monday January 16th 2012 Rob "who" seeks GOP nomination to face Andrew Thorn for New York Senate Rob Cole, the Majority Leader of the Clinton County Legislature , from upstate New York has announced today that he attends seek the Republican nomination for Senator and face Democratic incumbent Andrew Thorn in November. Mr Cole, who is 41, is a school teacher by profession, is almost un-heard of in the state. He first entered the County Legislature at the age of 22, he became Majority Leader two years ago and is widely regarded as a "decent man". Not much is known about him other than he is married, and has two young children. Former three term Governor and 2002 Presidential candidate Jack Stephens had been making suggestions that he might run, but Andrew Thorn looks almost unbeatable. There are suggestions that Cole is running just to boost his profile in the Republican party in the state. "People might not know who I am in the rest of the state, but they do in Clinton County. I am a public servant first, a politican second. I am running because I think this state can do better than a Washington "insider" like Andrew Thorn".
