Kazakhstan does'nt really need to be siilar to either, plus light blue does make sense for it, since the Kazakh and Central Asian peoples did up until relatiely recently in history use aspects of worshippig 'the Great Blue Heavens'.

I guess I've always seen colouring as being 'regional', for instance countries in the Indian subcontinent tend to be shades of purple. Meh.

Agree with Nigeria and Uzbekistan. Tunisia does have the Carthage colour. For some reason it was changed from the brown colour to pink.

Why not Nigeria? They're a regional power (and probably a great power within the next 25 years or so if they pull their shit together) with a larger population than Russia.

I think UCS has a massive bias toward white countries.

But this is a 2010 map, and colonialism is mostly dead other than a couple bits and pieces owned by Britain, France, the Netherlands, etc.

We need to look into the future. I fully expect countries like Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Nigeria to become great powers. I'm not saying to put them on maps of 1850, but why not 2010?

The colour system must be consistent. If you have colours on for one year, they should stay on for every map they exist on. That's the point of the UCS - it's universal and consistent and easy to remember.

Vietnam has a colour on new maps. It isn't biased to white countries, it's just that when the UCS was first developed it only had colours for countries with overseas territories, which meant colonial powers or powers with huge swathes of contiguous territory (because having Russia white on a map looks boring).

Also, last I checked, China, Japan, Indonesia, Egypt, Arabia, Oman, Turkey, Ehtiopia, Congo, Morocco, Tunisia, Iraq, Iran and India weren't white countries.

Uzbekisan is he country with most population in Central Asia, also it has most of the Ferghana valley wich traditionally dominated Central Asia, and was the birthplace of the Timurid Empire, so the same colour should be used by the Timurids.

Nigeria will very likely never be more than a regional power, given it has a massive amount of problems that you can't easily solve.

Vietnam should have a color for historic maps, but in the modern day it really can't even be a regional power considering its neighbors.

Bangladesh will not be a power of any sort unless it becomes part of India or a catastrophe leads to most of the rest of the world dying out.
Actually Bangladesh is going to have alot of problems in the future as ocean levels rise and flood the coasts and stuff.
