China and Indonesia's colors are quite good there, I'll admit.

Hi,
Does anyone have a map of northern Italy in any time from 1183 to 1200 (i believe borders did not change in that time) includig the states that made up the Kingdom of Italy in the HRE? I've searched the web and several threads to no avail. A map of the HRE with said small states would also be good. If Florence and Venice could be included too all the better. Thanks, Jim |

It does, but it doesn't go into that amount of detail, it just shows it as the HRE.
The closest I can find is this 1084 one from Wikipedia: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...084_v2.svg.png |

Does anyone have a base map from circa 1184 BC? Fall of troy, Greeks under Agamemnon and Menelaus, collapse of Hittites?

Good maps.
I don't know if others have noted this, but you have some confusing elements in early (pre 1500) north and central america. You seem to have overemphasized Yucatan and the Maya area to the detriment of central Mexico. It is surprising you show no independent state in central Mexico ca. AD500 when that was when the far reaching Teotihuacan state was thriving - and may in fact have dominated the Maya area. I also think you constantly overestimate the state-like nature of the north american cultures. The only possible true state may have been the Mississippian complex centered on Cahokia of the early second millenia. It is a real stretch to consider the earlier Mounbuilders and the Southwestern puebloan cultures "states" equivalent to those of MesoAmerica and the Andes. |

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but any maps depicting Korea as part of Japan, Tang/Ming/Qing China, or Mongolia are incorrect.
Japan never conquered Gaya. Some say that Japan invaded Silla and failed, which is doubtable, but Japan certainly did not have the capacity to expand that far. The Tang assisted Silla in conquering the southern Korean peninsula, but were driven out as soon as Silla managed to stabilize the area. Also, Balhae held the Liaodong Peninsula, in addition to southern & eastern Mongolia and northern Korea, until the 900's; Tang never controlled it, as shown in your map of 800. Not only that, the Tang never directly controlled Tibet, Mongolia, or Southeast Asia (except for northern Vietnam); they only controlled China proper (which excludes Mongolia, Xinjiang, and Tibet) and Central Asia. The Mongols only managed to subjugate Korea by making it a tributary state; they never claimed it directly. The Ming and Qing did not claim Korea as an integral part of their territory; like the Mongols, they only forced it to become a tributary state. Hope this helps, and that your maps will be fixed asap if they haven't been already.

How do you show that one nation has claimed another? The UCS on the first page doesn't give detail as to how you show it and so I'm a little confused, if someone could show me on an actually map or something that'd be great, thanks

![]() The central territory (Kosovo) is claimed by purple (Serbia) and actually controlled by green (Albania). Outlines mean claiming or legal ownership, and the central colour denotes actual control. |

But isn't this de jure control? Or is that something different?
