Your challenge, should you accept it, is: make the Great War, also known as the First World War, last well into the mid-21st Century. It's a considerably ASB challenge, but try to steer away of any things borderline implausible and impossible.

Your whole premise is impossible. The belligerents would have succumbed to revolution ala Russia or collapsed out of sheer exhaustion by 1920 at the absolute latest.

Impossible. Totally and utterly impossible. All belligerents would run out of manpower before even the mid-20th Century let alone the mid-21st. There would simply be nobody left to actually fight.

In addition every belligerent would have a revolution on their hands before even the 1st decade of the war was up, that is if they even last 10 years, which in it self is implausible.

With or without American involvement? With American involvement, the German race as we know it; every man, woman, and child; ceases to exist by 1950 if the same level of intensity of warfare of 1914-1918 is maintained through the entire war. Barring that notion, Germany would overthrow the Kaiser by 1920, rather than him going into exile. His death would make the overthrow Romanovs look like a tribute.

If we're talking about having a bunch more countries dogpile onto the war, then maybe it'll last until 1960? Again, you'd have European birth rates drop so sharply that people would long for the good old days of the Bubonic Plague.

Impossible. With technology of WW1 both side would be devastated pretty quickly and home front wouldn't like about very long war. There would be much demostrations and revolutions and another side has soon sue peace. War which last about 150 is economically and politically total suicide. Any nation don't want and can war so long.

Forgotten enemies

Quite easy, if you allow for technicalities. The easiest bet is a God forsaken, completely negligible country to declare war on Germany, only to be forgotten about in the peace talks. Good candidates are e.g. Andorra and Costa Rica.

Didn't that actually happen with Andorra IOTL? It lasted until the 50's I think.
