AHC: Make Catherine of Aragon & Arthur Tudor joint rulers of the Anglo-Spanish Empire

What it says on the tin. Maybe Catherine's sisters die of childbirth, or they simply die without issue. Of course, this changes history big time, but how? Would they make use of the Arthurian mythos as propaganda? And what of the New World?

Well, seeing what happened in the Iberian Union, what belonged to Castile will remain Castillian, while anything England discovers will remain English.

But here's a more fun scenario:

Going by your POD, we may end up having Henry of York becoming a priest, bishop, then Cardinal. But then, 20 years pass before Arthur and Kate pop out a child, whom I shall dub 'Sebastian'. Thus, Queen Kate would be near menopause when she finally bore a son.

Unfortunately, Kate dies shortly after Sebastian was born, and Arthur shortly follows due to grief. The young double-king...er...ahem...triple-king, overcome with religious zeal from his Cardinal-Uncle Henry, and the Castillian officials, decided that world domination is in order, starting in Morroco. Unfortunately, the Morrocans would ensure none of that would happen by sacrificing two of their kings to kill Sebastian in battle at the age of 18.

The now King Henry VIII becomes Cardinal-King of England, while whoever the Portuguese king is invades Castille, and the various Italian states pick away at Aragon. The Faithful Henry VIII tries to gain a dispensation from the pope from his clerical vows, but the pope would have none of that.

Henry dies childless and a virgin, and England is subsequently invaded by Mary of Scotland.

So I mentioned this TL to a friend and he just said "You know what would make this even better? IF HENRY THE CARDINAL KING OF ENGLAND SECEDES FROM THE CHURCH AND STARTS ANGLICANISM"

Well he needs to annex Scotland and Portugal too, so he can be POPE EMPEROR OF THE GREAT BRITISH-IBERIAN EMPIRE.

Why would Henry become a cardinal, there's nothing English about royalist being priests. And since Arthur didn't die, then Henry would have been married to Eleanor of Austria already.

Sebastian, no way:eek:. Henry VI put too much significance in the name Arthur, you know, Tudors' Arthurian descent and all:rolleyes:. So in this TL, eldest son would probably be named Arthur, second son Henry, and third son Ferdinand after the kid's Spanish granddad.

I would believe a son of Arthur and Catherine be called Ferdinand (after Catherine's father). Either that name or Henry (after the boy's grandfather and uncle).

However Henry Tudor will still get married not go into the church. Although both Henry and possibly Arthur wives will have a string of miscarriages or newborn deaths. This because of both of them being very likely having a Kell positive blood type.

That marriage would be interesting, since Eleanor was Catherine's niece and if such a marriage occurred Catherine's sister in law as well. Plus Eleanor was a Haspburg, so any kids she and Henry would have could inherit the Hapsburg jaw.

My TL should not be taken too seriously; (although for plausibility's sake,) I made the TL in jest based on what happened to a certain Iberian country in the 16th century. :p

He can be Arthur II of England, and first of Castile and Aragon if you want to. :D
