So...I just pitched Steven Spielberg directing Return of the Jedi and no one had a thing to say about it? Alright...

I mean, hell, knowing Spielberg, he may replace the Ewoks with a tribe of Lost Boys or something. ![]()

Star Wars is a fairy tale. I would use another cliche' and say it is not necessarily "for kids", but is for "the kid in all of us", ie, the part of us that can drop our pretentions and seriousness and just get off on a cool adventure with good guys, bad guys and all kinds of borrowed myths.
That being said, I would agree that Return of the Jedi was much more deliberately aimed a a kids market than the first two films, and for the same reason mentioned by others...Ewoks. The film could have been completely identical in plot and overall tone (but far better and closer to the ambience of the first films) if Ewoks were Wookies or anything other than teddy bears. |

Actual alternative candidates for RoJ were David Lynch and ... David Cronenberg (
![]() ![]() ). Lynch went on to make Dune, one wonders how hisRoJ would have looked like... |
