Russian Colonization Challenge

The Challenge here is to have some way that Ice Land and Greenland claimed and colonized by Russia. The Russians do not have to claim them first, but they must be coloized by free surfs. Also how is this going to affect world history,the world wars, or the cold war if there is one?

My idea is that durning early history when Russian were in contact with vikings instead of attacking the Khazars they focus one scandinavia and then build a fleet of ships to go after the islands. Or a even more victorius northern war and Russia gets Norway.

A prize to anyone who can have it where the islands revolt and become communists.
