Airborne Assassination of Der Fuhrer

In early 1942 Hitler flew by air to Finland and then to Kharkov. One can't help salivating about what if the British had got wind of Hitler's flight to Finland, and attempted a long-range airborne assassination like the Americans succeeded on Yamamoto in 1943. Were Mosquitoes with sufficient range available in early 1942? And what fight the Condor's escort would put up! Presumably such an attempt would have been beyond the mindset of the Russians at that stage, or even at any stage! Even of the British it might not have seemed "gentlemanly", had it not been for Churchill's sworn oath: "I will track the Nazi Bloodbeast back to his lair!". What would have been the result, short & long term, of Hitler's death in such a manner?

Summer offensive goes better for Germans (if not for any other reason because it can't get worse). There isn't such fixation on stlaingrad. It probablly is blockaded and Volga traffic cut so more focus on Caucassus. There probablly woun't be interference from above as leaders woudl be either fighting for power or dependant on armed forces to back them.

Some generals dismissed in late 1941 could be reinstated (Guderian). I'm not exactlly sure but was this before Todt was killed? If so and he dies as in OTL Speer might not get armaments ministry.

It could be benficial for Germans to remove ole Dolfe. And it would be good for propaganda to sell Germans more drastic measures.

"Airborne Assassination ... Presumably such an attempt would have been beyond the mindset of the Russians at that stage."

As a matter of fact, during HItler's brief stay at the Eastern Front in July 1942 (when Hermann Graf and other JG 52 aces escorted his Fw 200), the Soviet Air Force actually made an attempt to kill Hitler through an "airborne assassination". This is described - together with the account by one of the participating Soviet airmen in "Black Cross/Red Star" Vol. 3
