what POD gets you a world where the music genre of heavy metal punk-folk is popular and one of the most popular ones as of valentine's day 2004? This music genre would have some new instruments: the electric banjo, the electric accordian, the reverberating steel drum and the reveberating steel cymbals. This music would be sung in the ballad style like folk/country,have the metallic undertones of metal/punk and have the loud exciting style of post 1980's rock/metal/grunge/punk/alternative. The POD has to be post 1975. This genre is a product of my twisted imagination.

It sounds like a mixture of folk rock and blues metal, shouldn't be too hard to bring about. In many ways it simply requires pioneers in these areas to be more popular than in OTL - eg Gary Moore's bluesy phase, Cinderella's excellent 'Long Cold Winter' etc, even some of Bon Jovi's stuff.

Folk songs have long been popular in the neopagan scene. Mix in elements of metal reather than OTL folk-rock and you have a music style that should appeal to the angrier children of Gaia. Then it finds a wider appreciative audience among the environmentalist movement and, by the mid 1990s, is played to hundreds of thousands in the huge concerts that accompany anti-globalisation protest meetings....

Incidentally, you almost exactly described a more mature version of 'Tonk' music from my Bentham timeline. Weird minds think alike?

whats this Bentham TL? and can I appropiate Tonk music for use in another TL of mine?

I'm actually not sure I ever posted it, now that I think of it. It's about 20-odd pages of alternate history, in the format of an RPG setting. The POD is the late 18th century, with a much weaker Romantic movementleading to less 'emotional' decisionmaking culture dopminating the 19th century. Hence, no violently superpatriotic 'I die gladly for my sweet, precious flag' and no overinvestment in illogical ideologies like Fascism, radical Socialism and Second Coming stuff. Hence 'Bentham', for a world ruled by cold logic and the harsh realities of national economies. If you want it, tell me where to put it.

Sure you can have 'Tonk'. Just remember it's *Canadian*. The scene lives and breathes in Sault Ste Marie. It wouldn't be the same if it didn't come from the center of world automobile production :)
