Gen William Westmoreland, interviewed on the VW episode of Ted Turner's COLD WAR series, stated that he at the start of 1968 actually knew of the VC's intent to launch the Tet Offensive, but didn't reveal this knowledge, much to his later regret since the American public was taken totally by surprise by the speed and ferocity of the VC offensive in the cities of RVN. How could the course of the VW have changed had Westy actually decided to announce his knowledge that the Tet Offensive was about to go down ? Could the huge political negativity have been undercut by his frankness, and the US war effort better maintained ?
