on the old board there was the mosaic earth thread ando ne nation I remember is Yamania which was antarctica. So WI the yamanians went to antrctica instead of stopping at tierra del fuego?

Pepare yourselves for a spamfest gentlement...

Antarctica could not support a native human population living off local resources, except perhaps Eskimos. Unless we are in a geological ATL where Antarctica is warmer.

If we keep Antarctica and Australia connected, it'll be warm enough, but that'll create huge butterflies (heh, it actually could make giant butterflies, that'd be funny).

errr...dude...Yamania didn't stop at tierra del fuego- they later on colonized Antartica and eventually settled on the entire continent. you might want to see if GBW has registered if you want to get more information.

WK did a whole scenario involving an Eskimo-like population in Antarctica sometime on the old board. Perhaps he can summarize it for us.

There wasn't natives on the falklands was there?
I think the discussion said that the sticky out peninsula (don't know its name) could support humans due to all its animal life.

There was a short story (by H. Beam Piper, IIRC) where Worls War 3 forced the Afrikaners out of South Africa and down to the Palmer Peninsula (no one else would take them). Centuries later, when they were rediscovered, they had gone native and lived as "ubereskimoes" in such a marginal state that Negro Africa left them that way as an example of what happens to bigots.
