Question

Question: Would the USA in Turtledove's nest Great War series be able to cope with a war that was fought in the style of Russia and Germany in the 1940's? By this I mean would Americans be willing to throw everything they have into defeating the Invading hordes of confederates, since the USA had nothing like the disipline and complete control the Soviets had over their people. The US was freer and more well off, the people were educated, they were not controlled completely by the government. So wouldn't they want the war to be over and done with quickly, I would think the horror of the war against the Confederates and the million dead men would create a sort of backlash agianst the military and against fighting a desperate war as happened with France in OTL. The US public have never actually faced an invasion into their heartland, the sacking of cities and the miseries that went with it? They had more to lose and would they be willing to lose it all and keep going and keep fighting?
The most that happened was Washington DC was occupied, Philledelphia was threatened, San Francisco raided, LA bombed, and all the fighting was done on the boarders of the US, not on their own turf.

OTOH, the USA in this world has been right next door to a hostile CSA for a long time.... they are certainly more mentally prepared for a fight to the finish than the USA of OTL would have been....
