The Puitan movement in England during the 1600s takes a rather nasty turn. Not only do they remain hard working, depressingly sincere, and literate they also embrace the idea of the Pederoci/Spartiate (The Dwellers around the City and the Actual Spartan Warrior class). This makes the English Civil War much shorter. Very profession and well drilled Puritian armies thrash the Royals, in remarkably short order. Cromwell emerges, but due to the shortness of the war doesn't quite reach the forefront. The King is not only executed, but so are most of the nobility - in fact a royal/noble hunt rages through England. When it is over by the 1660s few nobles survive (most in hiding in Europe). It would seem the Peds (yes yes I know better Peds than Reds), have won. But some of the more militaristic and mystical types what futher purification of the homeland. Well, says the powers that be, this simply won't do! After we won the war, got some nice land and are sitting pretty. However the new world is just empty and waiting for you types.
1630s - First Major religious/military settlement in North Carolina and
Virginia.
1660s - Mass immigration begins to new world of the pruified Peds. They want to build their new city on the hill with a nice high wall, lots of guns and
very strict rules. Whole villages move from England (actually not far off some
of the settlement patterns).
1670s - The Commonwealth is slowly settling down at home. Still no nobility.
But lots of sponsored immigration. Some experiments with Gracchi laws -
division of the larger estates. The Irish are being displaced on their Island
and sent in VERY VERY small groups to the colonies - all the better to be
absorbed.
1680s - Abortive pro-monarchist coup (backed by the French) trigger a new
embracing of the Peds. Strict laws against nobility or high clergy. The
English and Dutch get along, but most of the continent hate their guts.
1690s - Major Commonwealth campaigns in the lowland. The French have numbers but are hopelessly outclassed. The Commonwealth's universal education system and emphasis on technology have jump started the Industrial Revolution (ironically the prosperous peasantry second and third sons are having to immigrate to the cities)
1700s - Commonweath troops land in Iberia (Portugal). They begin a systematic expermination of the local nobility and Papist. The General Population is stripped of its culture rapidly, deprived of local leadership and unwillingly transformed into Englishmen.
1710s - Major revolts rock the lowland colonies and Portugal - The English
Exterminate 20% of the population and deport 20%. English ships deny the
Atlantic Passage to any foreign merchant ships. The Spanish colonies in the
new World are encouraged to revolt.
1720s - Corvus (the Raven/Hook) becomes Supreme Excecutive of the Commonwealth. One of mankinds greatest mass murders he will ruthlessly harness the great merchantile and emerging industrial power of the British Islands/Colonies to the task of Protestant Purity. He will control Commonwealth politics for over 40 years
1730s - Industrialization comes with a vengence to England. Ironically the
Parish Councils develop into Quasi-Labor Unions preventing some of the worse
abuses of Industrialization. Corvus outlaws all slavery of true Christians -
all slaves must be given instruction in the true faith and freed when
converted.
1740s - Labor shortages and conversions trigger revolts in the Southern
Colonies - long a hot bed of 'Royalist' feelings. Joined by exiled Scots,
Irish, Protugues and French they make a strong go of it. Finally the rebels
are crushed (with all males being executed) by General Malthus in the Battle of New Market.
1750s - Commonwealth warships enter the Baltic and sink most of the
Nordic/Russian/Polish and German merchant marine. Only Commonwealth vessels may carry cargo. For now the Med is open.
1760s - Corvus dies and is replaced on the Council of Purity by Malthus. A
strict proper stoic Malthus shuns all worldly goods (indeed his famous painting
by Gainsaworthy shows his hair shirt coming out from his military uniform)
1770s - The American colonies are being ruthlessly exploited. Further
campaigns into France and Spain lead to their dismemberment. Thousands of
Frenchmen and Spanairds are transported to the new world. Ironically many are
soon under the charge of Puritan Negro vetrens of the Great 1740s revolt.
1780s - Germany, Austria, the Italian States and Russia form the
Anti-Commonwealth ALliance. The Rhine MUST be held. Malthus dies.
1790s - Factional disputes in the Commonwealth seem to protend a loosening of the Purian code.
1800s - Further 'liberalizaiton' of the Commonwealth.
1810s - The period of growing liberalization ends with the Frapanards revolt in
America. A fanatical revival of Puritanism bursts on the scene after three
years of steady defeats. The new purified Commonwealth pursues a vicious
policy of direct extermination in Germany and Northern Italy.
1820s - The European war Ends as Napoleron (an Purified French General) takes control. The Commonwealth Border is pushed to Poland. Commonwealth troops in India begin forcible conversion.
1830s - Revolts in India are crushed with millions being driven North to
starvation and death. Millions more are converted or killed. Commonwealth
bases are scattered along the China border.
1840s - The Jappo War ends with the annexation of Japan and Korea. The last Pope in Rome is caught and publically executed.
1850s - African settlement continue with generally less bloodshed as conversion is more easily accomplished. Several Small wars in China protend the greatest
battle.
1860s - The Commonwealth fights the Taipaing Dynasty and its minor allies
Russia and Turkey. Again the pattern of early defeats is followed by a
'reawakening'. Most of Russia is depopulated and the Turks expelled once again to central Asia. China survives only as a vassal state
1870s - The Conservative Sect (now isn't that a scary thought a Conservative sect of Puritans) purges the more moderate liberals (who occasionally allowed
dancing) from the Grand Council. A heavy blanket of Religious fevor settles
over most of the globe.
1880s - God is in his heaven and if not resting comfortably in Westminster.
