What if the Crown of Portugal would have funded Columbus, as he originally intended and he sailed for Portugal?

Not going to happen. Portugal KNEW that China was MUCH further away than Columbus claimed.
There's a reason he sailed for a nation that had no seafaring prowess.
And in any case, Portugal was too invested in their own route to India, getting around Africa.
