Bijou, the Jewel of France. TL.

Bad news first. Janszoon is being cancelled for plausibility reasons, i cant keep writing something I don't really believe in, There will be no new updates. sad times.
Good news! a new TL. a better TL. a TL that can be taken to 2050 in a logical and sensible way. Written with ideas from Janszoon but from a more plausible perspective and a shiny new format. Enjoy.

Prologue.

Wouldn't Joyau better fitting? Bijou sounds a bit too diminutive.
Basically, you can say "Cette province est le joyeau du royaume", less likely "Cette province est le bijou du royaume".

Good TL idea. However, two nitpicks.

* Agree with LSCatilina that the correct translation for Jewel would be Joyau. Bijou is more diminutive, and could instead originate as a pun from one of the court ladies.

* Moreover, Étienne-François is only the given name of the person more properly referred to as the Duc de Choiseul.

I...don't understand one thing. Bijou is Australia, right? So "up" on that map is east, right?

I agree with LSCatilina joyeau would be more fitting then bijou.
For exemples "the jewels of the crown" would translate to "Les Joyaux de la couronne".

Sorry if I sounded rude.:(
I hope you will continue. But I wonder if such a colony isn't a little far away for France.

Spain held the Philippines and the Dutch held the east Indies, though Australia is slightly further away than these places it is basically empty and the climate is friendly in the south, the French are throwing a lot of money at the scheme as well, that often helps though growth will be slow because of distance.

Et l'Angleterre en est-elle moins éloignée? Just sayin :p
Oui mais l'Angleterre a une meilleure tradition navale que la France, même si on est encore loin de la totale domination des mers de l'epoque napoléonienne et victorienne.
Even if the gap between the two power is much smaller then in the latter era.

Very nice

To be honest this interests me a great deal. I've always wanted to see a different settlement of Australia, and this one seems very well thought out and written.

Please man, I love these threads. As an Aussie, it's great to see the many possibilities that could have happened to my country (I live on the West Coast). Please, come back, I need a resolution to this. I want to see what happens to the colony when the Revolution happens.
