Much of this volume covers Operations Avalanche and Slapstick and the succeeding breakouts from the beachheads and the push North. The success of coalition warfare between General Harold Alexander and General Lucian Truscott* was evident through mutual supporting operations on both sides of the pennisula, particularly the pocketing and substantial destruction of the German Tenth Army.
